Marketplace Fairness Act

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin held a news conference at Anderson?s Bookshop in Naperville on Friday, January 13 to discuss bi-partisan legislation he has introduced called the Marketplace Fairness Act, which aims to level the playing field between online and "bricks and mortar" merchants. The bill would eliminate the unfair advantage online merchants have over main street businesses by requiring sellers to collect sales tax from out-of-state buyers regardless of whether the seller has a physical presence in the state.
