Durbin Announces More Than $94,000 in DOJ Funding for Ford County Judiciary Program

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded Ford County a grant of $94,598 to support efforts to provide representation for potentially wrongly convicted defendants and offer better services through drug treatment courts. This funding was made available through the DOJ’s Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program, which is designed to develop and implement drug treatment courts for jurisdictions to incorporate substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting. 

“This funding will support programs in Ford County that transition nonviolent offenders back into their communities,” Durbin said. “This investment will help prevent at-risk individuals from turning to drugs or violence and will enhance public safety and the administration of justice in our communities.”

Ford County will use the grant to maximize the capacity of its drug treatment court in order to ensure that all offenders are identified and assessed for risk and need. This funding will also help expand and enhance services such as individualized treatment, vocational and educational services, and community reintegration in order to prevent recidivism and increase the likelihood of long-term recovery.
