Durbin: We Must Address The Innovation Deficit
At a Senate hearing to examine the Department of Defense’s FY2016 Budget request, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) – Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense – addressed the steady decline in federal research investment which has led to a cumulative $1.5 trillion research investment deficit. In the 1960’s, the US invested 17% of the discretionary budget on research and development. That number is now down to 9%.
