Durbin Visits Erie Family Health Center During National Health Center Week
CHICAGO – Today U.S. Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) held a press conference with health care leaders at Erie Family Health Center to discuss recent funding cuts to Medicaid and mark National Health Center Week.
“I’ve been honored to work alongside Erie Family Health Centers for years in the fight for affordable health care and lower prescription drug costs,” said Durbin. “This week is National Health Center Week, a time to recommit to protecting health centers, many of whom will suffer from Medicaid cuts. In Illinois, Medicaid will be cut by 19 percent, which will devastate our hospitals, nursing homes, and health centers like Erie. Despite President Trump’s efforts, I will continue to fight for accessible and high-quality health care for Illinoisans.”
The first week of August marks National Health Center Week, to celebrate and increase awareness of the nation’s 1,500 Community Health Centers (CHCs), which provide care to more than 32 million Americans. Across Illinois, 55 CHCs operate 450 distinct clinics, which together treat 1.5 million patients, regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay. Erie Family Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that was founded in 1957. It provides primary care, dental, behavioral health, and mental health services to patients. In 2024, Erie served more than 95,000 patients and received federal recognition for its high-quality services.
