Durbin Statement On Confirmation Of Loretta Lynch As Attorney General

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement after the Senate voted 56-43 to confirm Loretta Lynch as the next Attorney General of the United States:

Loretta Lynch is without question one of the finest cabinet nominees I’ve had the privilege to vote for during my time in the Senate.  She is extraordinarily qualified for the job and will be an exceptional Attorney General. That her nomination was delayed by Senate Republicans for a record 167 days is an embarrassment to the United States Senate. But I am focused on the positive history made here today: that we have confirmed an outstanding nominee who will be America’s first African American woman to lead the United States Department of Justice.
