Durbin Statement On Senate Confirmation Of Seth Aframe To The U.S. Court Of Appeals For The First Circuit

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Mr. Seth Aframe to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Mr. Aframe’s confirmation:

“Mr. Aframe is an experienced trial attorney and accomplished appellate practitioner who has over 20 years of legal experience. His significant litigation background and extensive experience in federal court ensure that he will be a valuable addition to the First Circuit. As we approach 200 lifetime judges confirmed under President Biden, I congratulate Mr. Aframe on becoming the latest example of Senate Democrats voting to confirm highly qualified judicial nominees who will ensure a fair system of justice for all.”

On January 18, 2024, Mr. Aframe’s nomination advanced out of the Judiciary Committee in a 11-10 vote.

Today’s confirmation continues the Committee’s work filling judicial vacancies with highly qualified, diverse candidates who help ensure the fair and impartial administration of the American justice system.

Under the leadership of Chair Durbin, the Senate has confirmed 198 judges to lifetime appointments on the federal bench during the Biden administration. Following Mr. Aframe’s confirmation, thirteen lifetime judges – including three circuit court nominees and ten district court nominees – are eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.
