Senate Judiciary Committee Announces Logistics For Hearings On Supreme Court Nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing entitled “The Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States” to begin Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11:00 AM ET and continue through Thursday, March 24, 2022, in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building.

 

The hearings will begin on Monday, March 21 at 11:00 AM ET with statements from Committee members, the individuals who will introduce Judge Jackson, and Judge Jackson herself.  Opening statements will be 10 minutes from Committee members, including the Chair and Ranking Member; five minutes from outside introducers; and 10 minutes from Judge Jackson herself. 

 

Questioning of Judge Jackson will begin on Tuesday, March 22 at 9:00 AM ET.  Members will have the opportunity to ask questions for 30 minutes each, in order of seniority.

 

On Wednesday, March 23, the hearing will resume at 9:00 AM ET.  Members will have the opportunity to ask a second round of questions for 20 minutes each, in order of seniority.  The Committee will also meet in closed session on Wednesday to discuss any matters relating to Judge Jackson’s FBI background investigation.  The Committee does this for every Supreme Court nominee, regardless of whether the background investigation has raised concerns.

 

The hearings will conclude on Thursday, March 24, with testimony from the American Bar Association (ABA) and outside witnesses. The hearing will once again begin at 9:00 AM ET. Statements by the ABA and other witnesses will be five minutes each; question rounds will also be five minutes each.
