U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) held a news conference to call out energy drink companies for marketing their products to children, despite their assurances to the contrary, at a news conference at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago on Monday, March 25. Durbin announced he was joining U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in sending letters to the Chief Executive Officers of Red Bull, Rockstar and Monster requesting explanations for their sponsorship of high school sporting events and advertising at venues like Little League games.

Straw Purchasing

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) discussed the bipartisan bill he introduced with U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) cracking down on individuals who straw purchase or illegally traffic firearms at a news conference in Chicago on Friday, March 8. Durbin and Kirk's bill creates for the first time a tough federal criminal offense for straw purchasers who use their clean backgrounds to purchase guns for criminals unable to do so themselves.
